There can be certain factors when you decide how to build a shed by yourself from scratch. Before you buy or build you will need to determine what it will be used for. Certainly it will need to be large enough to accommodate all of your belongings you plan to store. Also note the amount of room in your backyard you are planning on placing it. Is your yard big enough to accommodate the size of shed you plan to build?
The first step when building a shed will be finding out if any permits will be required. Your municipality may require a building permit. If they are required you will need to obtain them before you start building. The style and size may as well have restrictions, so find out what your city allows. Overall you need to find out if you are allowed to build and what is allowed.
Once you clear this hurdle you are ready to build. You can either buy a kit that will be ready for assembly or find blueprints and build it yourself from scratch.
If you bought a kit it will be pretty simple to build, just follow the directions and have your tools ready.. Buying lumber and building from scratch will require more time and tools . A table saw or circular saw, a good tape measure, a square, level and a good hammer are some of the basic tools you will need. Depending on the features you want you may need other tools as well.
Most sheds will consist of four walls, foundation, roof, door and windows. The floor and walls are usually constructed of 2 X 4 and plywood. Any wood that comes in contact with the ground should be pressure treated to resist decay and insects. The roof frame is usually built with 2 X 4 or 2 X 6 rafters. Plywood decking and shingles or tin will be installed on the rafters.
Once you have revised your plans, have all the materials and tools required you can start building. To begin first build the base frame using treated wood. These are then covered with plywood. Wall frames will then be constructed from 2 X 4 lumber, and plywood will be placed on the exterior. Once you raise the walls and have nailed them to the base, you can install the roof rafters on top of the walls. Painting or staining the outside will protect it from the elements and prolong the usage. Purchasing or building a shed will provide great extra space making this a wonderful addition to your home.
